The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The president stated that the team is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Director of the team. Following a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the weeks to come.
David
